Blues in the School with Po O’Hara
February 25th, 2010

Patrick “Po” O’Hara and I had the privilege of stopping by the Foothills School on Tuesday for a Blues in The Schools Program. Sponsored by the Boise Blues Society, BITS brings the power of Blues Music to students. Blues influence, history and importants are emphasized. However the real magic is when professional musicians like Po share their passion with kids.
After a quick introduction, young Mr. O’Hara took over. He quickly built rapport and respect. After a quick look at history, Po ran through a series of Blues standards-traditional to modern. With an understanding of the music, Po got the kids involved. 1st just stomping of feet and clapping. With the help of teachers Jessica and Jennifer he soon had them writing Blues songs and performing. The favorite of the day had to be “broccoli Blues.
Thank you Po, You did a great job, glad I could be along to help.
