Downtown Boise bar for sale. This place is in an established location and is primed to explode. Serious inquiries only.
From Craigslist, wonder which one? Don’t think it is the Bucket, even if they have had trouble getting decent bands lately. Price is  to low.

Hi, all. Having trouble getting much of an Internet connection here. Amazingly the south doesn’t have a coffee shop of every corner with free WiFI. So I am going to just up load the pics. They tell the story well. Facebook users may have to go to Boisee.com for a full look. Oh, both Lori B!  and  Blue Diamonds did an exceptional job. However neither reached the finals.

Memphis woke up a lithe hard on Thursday. After a quick walk Lissa and I headed to the historic Blue Plate Cafe for a early lunch of Southern Fried Chicken. Prefect.

Then we headed to Sun Studios. Sun is where Elvis convinced Sam Phillips to let him have a shot at recording. This is hallowed ground, you can feel presence of the legends who recorded here. The tour is simple, but informative. Our tour guide was sweet and gave us a peak at the beginning of Rock. From the 1st and accidental use of distorted guitar, to the story of Rufus Thomas’s first hit Bear Cat. The tour ends in the actual studio where hit after hit were recorded. I left with goose bumps. If you get to Memphis do not miss Sun.

The Boise crowd slowly gathered on Beale for the performances of the BoDo’s and the Blue Diamonds. The ribs at the Blues City Cafe were good, not great.

Stay tuned for more.

There is a power to Memphis. A charge that comes for history, the power of Blues and Rock N Roll. Of the fight for cival rights and the diversity of music. As Elissa and stood at the top of Beale street the electriciy energized us. We at a bowl of “Memphis Soul” at the Blues City Dinner. Blues City is an original, when Bubba’s of The House of Blues, or Disney tries to make a Blues Dinner, the look the are aiming for is here. A miss mash of table and chairs, aged black and white photos, wide glass cases and the best food on Beale. It was not a coincidence that are 1st meal was at the Blues City.

After a recharge we found some of the Boise bunch in the hotel bar. A couple of douples and we were back to Beale. The Rum Boogie to be exact,  the home of

EAT, DRINK, REPEAT.  Heard some pretty good blues, and found out the Lori will be on stage here both nights of the competion and Po O’Hara and the Bo Do’s will be next door. As one of the prime venues, this is a huge sign of respect for the Blue Diamonds.

After Rum Boogies closed we rolled through the “secret” door into Mr. Handys Juke Joint. This fabled hall was swingin’, When I smiled and told Russ Martin he was going to play Beale Street tomorrow, he wink back and told me he was “going to tell the truth, on Beale. “

Good times a head.

The Legends of Nashville

January 20th, 2010

On the way yo the international BLues Competition in Memphis, My kid Lissa and I decided to land in Nashville. After  crossing the counrty we taxied to “Music Row” to  find a drink and listen to some live music. We wandered down Broadway and up 2nd. Sadly bar after bar had bands but not many customers. We settled on dinner at the famous Jacks were if you buy four sauces you get a Free hand rub.

After looking into BB Kings and the Hard Rock we swung through Tooties and ended up at Legends. Dave Parks was manning the stage and brought up Thom Shepard who sang his hit song Dijbouti . We drank till the old white guys danced, then went to a little dive called Doc Hollidays had one more and headed home.

In a bit  we will shop at Gruen’s guitar, see a couple of museums and head to Memphis. Will likely update y’all on boisee.com tomorrow.
