Follies-overheard wisdom

January 26th, 2009

“It’s time to leave when the white guys start to dance.”

You never lived untill you have seen middle aged aged women LINE dancing to a well played version of Prince’s P^$$y Control. Especially if it is at Foresters in McCall on a cold Saturday night.

Thanks Miss Liss for the adventure.

Here is the info From

Nathan Jay Moody

Hey everyone,

For those of you who know and those of you who don’t,  The QUARTERTONS
were selected this year by the Boise Blues Society
(www.boiseblues.org) to represent Boise and all of Idaho at the
International Blues Competition. (www.blues.org/ibc) This is the
biggest blues competition in the world and it is held each year in
Memphis TN.  We will be leaving Feb 3rd to represent all of you!!

It cost a bit of $ to get a band down to Memphis so we along with the
BBS are holding a Fundraiser and asking for your support by way of
coming out to an awesome Sunday event.

This Sunday Jan 18th 12:00 - 4:00 P.M. we will be putting this event
on at the Bulls Head Bistro on Eagle and Fairview.  Southwest corner
between Red Robin and Wendy’s.  It is an ALL AGES Event and everyone
is welcome.

Live music performances by Boise’s own:

             Neighbor Dave

Lori B! and the Blue Diamonds

                   & The QUARTERTONS

  along with many special guests.

We will be holding a silent auction and some great raffle prizes.  Plus
there will be a great menu for lunch at the Bulls Head and a full bar with
I.D.

$10.00 per adult   $5.00 per child.   (special discounts for large
families)

If you would like to donate something to be auctioned, please let me
know and bring it with you.  Also if you cant make it to the
Fundraiser but would still like to donate, you can do so two ways:

go to boiseblues.org and find the link or

go to paypal.com and send $ to nathanjay@fiberpipe.net

Please pass this email along to any of your friends that may want to come
and as always thanks for the support!!  Email me back with any questions.

Tried to buy this post card. Any ideas where it was taken? I’m stumped. Maybe 8th street, looks like the old Hotel Boise sign way in the back.

4 Responses to “Where is this?”

  1. Tony Thomas Says:
That is 8th street looking north.
The brick building on the right is the current public library.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=library+boise&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=52.505328,78.75&ie=UTF8&ll=43.610415,-116.208487&spn=0,359.961548&z=15&layer=c&cbll=43.610536,-116.208366&panoid=H2VNM8E7LFWOeykWjEJGLQ&cbp=12,38.90662446664478,,0,5

  2. Elissa Says:
That is the library on the right. This is 8th looking toward 8th street market place. It where the turnaround is and the Anne Frank Memorial. I park here all the time.
  3. Skelly Says:
You’re correct. On the right, that’s the building that became part of the new Boise public library. Go to the Anne Frank monument and compare this to today’s view.
  4. Rick O Says:
Everyone is right, of course. The Library gives it away. Additional details:
    - The two structures opposite 8th Street from the library (U.S. Plywood and the little free-standing house) are still there, but will not survive the eventual Library Blocks redevelopment.
    - The tallish broad structure a few blocks in the distance is the old Eastman Building, way before its abandonment and arson.
    - Sticking up behind it, the slender top of the Hoff.

Art for Art-Great News

January 4th, 2009

art4art-0498After a successful Christmas gallery showing. The artists of Art for Art have decided to make a go of it full time.

For something like A4A success comes in many ways. Not only did we all cover the costs of being open and make a little money on the side, we found a camaraderie and energy not often discovered.

From nurturing 1st time exhibitors to the synergy that come comes form different creative types discussing the challenges and triumphs of being an artist. In a world that is more and more gobal and corporate, this success stands out. Oh, and did I mention the recession.

We also able to help the next generation of local artists by contributing over $500 to Arte Faire.

So here is the bottom line. Beginning Friday January 16th Art for Art will be open full time.

In Vista Village-1002 Vista.

Unique ,  hand crafted and local are the what works. We will expand a little to include a wider varity of high quality local art and gifts. Including some speciality food and a few more gift items.

Watch this space for more info.

Thanks to Melissa and everyone else who have put so much energy and time into this. A special thanks to the landlady for helping us along.
