Odd Request

July 14th, 2008

As a photographer the presentation of your photographs is one of the hardest parts of the job.
You want a presentation that shows off the image without detracting from it.

Most photographers slap a matt and a frame around the photo. I have never really liked that look.
Printing on canvas helps, but I am look for something more.

So dear Boisee readers help me! I am looking for a flat surface to attach Glicee prints to. Sheet metal, stainless, something weirder maybe like a car door. I’m looking for supplies and ideas.
If you can help let me know. I will give anyone who comes up with something workable a signed exclusive image. Guess that means your idea will have to be suitable for your own walls. If you don’t want to post your idea as a comment, e-mail me at boisee@gmail.com
Thanks in advance, David

Andrae’s? Done!

More bad news for the restaurant biz.

Andrae’s will be closing the end of July.

So, like I said in my response to Gaybot. It is hard to be snarky towards the server class when they are losing jobs and shutting doors like they have been of late.

Gay, your right Boisee.com has mellowed. It isn’t nearly as fun to beat up on the bar and restaurants lately. With everyone suffering it is no longer just bad management that leeds to failure. Never have liked kicking someone when they are already down.

Besides, it’s always the same lineup. How many times do you want the hear that one of the Ted Challenger’s bars was sited, or the how now gone Moby has roughed up a girl friend or customer. Hell, As far as I know Dave Krick hasn’t unceremoniously fired anyone lately. Eric at the Bouquet seems to be doing better. What’s to talk about?

That said If you got something fun send me a line.

Oh, and why is it that the negitive comments always come in after 2:00am?

This just came in from Paul Peterson.

Look at the list of names. See anyone you know. Right after TOMMY frigin’ CASTRO! Just down the page from B.B. himself.
Wow, no wonder he doesn’t return my calls anymore. . .

Elvin Bishop the founding member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band whose music has been called “sheer, unpretentious joy” by Entertainment Weekly has completed work on ‘The Blues Rolls On.’ Due September 23 on Delta Groove Recordings, the album harks back to Bishop’s roots, paying tribute to the musicians who helped give him his start. A who’s who of blues musicians support Bishop on the album, including B. B. King, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, George Thorogood, James Cotton, Kim Wilson, Tommy Castro, John Nemeth, Ronnie Baker Brooks, and Angela Strehli. Bishop handles the majority of the vocals, with Nemeth and others pitching in as well.

Barflies & Cocktails

July 8th, 2008

Boisee.com friend, Buddha John sent along some info about classic barguides. Here is a cover and a recipe from one “Barflies and Cocktails” by Harry McElhone, which first appeared in 1927. It has been reprinted by MudPudle press.

Burnt Fuselage
Makes 1 drink

Adapted from “Barflies & Cocktails,” by Harry McElhone. “Your own
fuselage will be warm, to say the least,” writes McElhone.

1 ounce Cognac
1 ounce dry vermouth
1 ounce Grand Marnier
Instructions: Stir well with ice and strain into chilled cocktail
glass.

Thanks John, may have to find a bartender to make this one, wanna join me?

Hi-Tops reunite!!!!

July 4th, 2008

On Jul 4, 2008, at 2:05 PM, Steve Fulton

Yes you read that right! The Original Hi-Tops that left Boise in 1988 for San Diego and played their last gig in Boise in 1990 is performing on AUGUST 9th at Visual Arts Collective.

I kind of hand picked this list of you that I am pretty sure were there in those days or had an interest in this.
There of course is a ton of others that are not on this list. Could you pass this on to anyone that you know that would want to know about this historic performance? Send their email to me and I will put them on the list.

Craig Sofaly, former lead guitarist for Hi-Tops moved to France with his Wife Sophie 18 years ago and has only been back once. They have 2 lovely daughters that wanted to see where their parents met because it is their 20 year anniversary.
This got me and Craig talking and decided to put together a show to help pay for the extra expenses. This has turned into a Hi-tops reunion. So far everyone but Dave Browne our Drummert (we will greatly miss him) are able to make it so it should be amazing and a ton of fun! Our Great friend Tim Willis will fill in on Drums. He was always their so it will be great to have him!

All of our recordings will be available at the show!

Tickets are on sale on the 7th at www.ticketleap.com <http://www.ticketleap.com>  <http://www.ticketleap.com>

I will keep you posted on updates and developments!

Talk soon
