Oly no More

October 30th, 2007

It was just a tiny bar off of Grove. I was only there once. Didn’t find it exactly “straight friendly.” I read someplace that gay bars are slowly disappearing as the world becomes more diverse and accepting. Gotta be a good thing, but not for the old Oly Bar.web-0042.jpg

2008 Boise calendar

Morning snow-afternoon sun. A common winter day in Boise. This shot comes from a walk down 9th street. Just above Angell’s patio trees line the street. Their bright red berries must not taste good to the birds. Long after the varmints have gathered all the other berries and nuts these still linger. The stark white of the snow contrasted with the blue sky and the red fruit. However it wasn’t until I noticed the round red shape against the edgy lines of the building that the photo “popped.”

China Blue-Justice?

Ted “the gambler” Challenger’s legal troubles have become far less troublesome. Several reliable sources report that the felony charges have been reduced to two counts of misdemeanor serving a minor. Guess well paid lawyers and friends make a difference.

Iphone-Should you?

October 20th, 2007

After months of phone envy, denial, thought, and just Irish frugality the loss of my old Samsung on a photo safari last week meant it was time of look at a new phone. Since I biologically wasn’t equipped for the IBoob I took a look at the Iphone. Well I bought and I love it. How cool is it to be able to go to my www.AmericanPhotoSource.com site and show a prospect my whole gallery. As a phone it’s great, the voice mail feature is so neat, like e-mail, you can pick and chose what order you listen to the messages in.

However the best part may be the touch screen key broad. Any regular reader of this page knows that typing is not my biggest talent!!! I have been very challenged by IM, text messaging and the like. Now with the iphone it is not so hard. Typing on the screen is quick and intuitive. So, Iphone, maybe you should too.

Taste of Memphis-a no photo review

October 18th, 2007

Taste of Memphis is well a “taste of Memphis.”

After a couple of lunches, I love this place. In the much missed Villano’s location on Idaho, Taste of Memphis is bright and lively. Step to the counter and order from a menu straight off Beale street. Chicken, pulled pork and prefect ribs. The sides, think green beans, cole slaw, candied yams, even a green salad. Of course the deserts have a southern flavor. Carrot cake and fudgey brownies grace the sweets case by the cash register. Add sweet tea and you may want to look over your shoulder to see if Elvis is in the building. Come on down and taste fine southern cookin’.

Open Letter

October 17th, 2007

Hi all, been ask for an update on my work. So here ya all go. . .

First, the 2008 Boise Calendar is finished and for sale. You can
purchase it online at www.AmericanPhotoSource.com. Just click on the
“Buy Calendar Here” at the top of the page. This calendar is the best
ever and would make a great client or friend gift. It features 13
months of iconic Boise imagery; including South Pool, the old Lucky 13
and the Egyptian Theatre.

The 2008 Boise Calendar is also available at Vista Book and Taters in
the Grove. The “Calendar Collection” is the featured artwork at
Dawson Taylor Downtown this month. Stop by for an amazing cuppa’
coffee and check it out. Each month of the 2008 calendar has been
printed with Ultrachrome pigment ink on a 16×20 canvas. You can also
find it for purchase fro the cool staff and Dawson downtown.

There are only two more weeks of the Boise City Public Market, but I
will be back for the Christmas show, with some unique gifts.

The brand new and beautiful City Grill has a series of images that
spotlight downtown Boise. Thanks to Mitchell and Christine. These
works “fit” the wonderfully warm and classic atmosphere of Boise’s
newest hotspot, and I am proud to grace their walls.

VP Carol Howell commissioned another set of Boise themed photos for
display at the newly remodeled Bank of the Cascades (formerly Farmers
and Merchants) on 12th and Idaho. If you need a great banker stop by
and see Carol and take a look at the photos while you are there . . .
thanks Carol.

Want something commercial or custom? Or, an image in a different size
or style let me know, I can shoot or print about any size or style, on
a variety of canvas or paper, framed or unframed.

Thanks,
David R Day

One of the best parts of Boise is the commitment to diversity and the arts. Worldfest is a great example. A lively mix of cultures, each represented in dance. Was lucky enough to take some photos for Boise City. Here is one from Saturday.
