Has a “Breakfest at Tiffiny’s” feel to me!

Early, BSU will go down 14 points. They always do! The Sooners will sigh with relief and begin to plan for next year.
Second quarter. Down by 14 BSU’s Korey Hall grips an interceptions and scores. 14-7. Sooner fans don’t even notice. A fluke. Paul J speaks of a small shift in momentum. Oklahoma goes 6 and out. ESPN announcer Herbstreet pipes in with “Hey is this games changing?†TV sidekicks laughs! Boomer fans still in bar across the street
Boise gets a long kick return from Q. Jones and start on the 40. After a series of 6 and 8 yard runs by Ian Johnson, Z nails a perfect fade pass to Naanee and BSU ties the game at 14.
The BOY C -STATE cheer rocks the house. The Broncos head to the locker room Even Steven’s.
Third quarter, both Adrian Peterson and Ian Johnson run well, but penalties and dropped passes stall each team drives. The score still tied at the end of three! Espn mentions “that the Broncos are amazingly still in this thing?†Paul J speaks of the big mo and Z and Johnson get those grins.
It is down to the final 15 minutes of the biggest game in BSU history. No one east of the Rockies believed. No one with a “Idaho Alumni†license plate believed. OK, I was a bit worried myself. The guys in Blue, they believed, in them self’s, their couch and the system. So, the forth quarter is all Blue and Orange. Ian’s famous patience pays off, and Zabransky has the quarter of a life time. Every pass sticks and he shares the wealth with 4 different backs catching balls. Early in the quarter after a 22 yard run to the 3. Z bootlegs in for a touchdown.
That’s right folks BSU up by 7. The ESPN guys don’t know what to say. No one wrote them a script for BSU having a chance to win. In the KBOI booth The Voice of the Broncos has lost his voice and Tom Scott has to take over. In true BSU style they recover an sneaky little onside kick then stall on the 43. Sooner ball. Suddenly awake, those Boomer fans still coherent cheer their team with Boola boola or some other song they stole from Yale or was it North Carolina? Almost works, but Hall drags an another ball out of the sky and BSU is back in the charge. Driving slowly down the field the Blue and Orange cross the mid stripe and than are stopped at the 23 yard line and are forced to attempt a feild goal. Montgomery nails it for three more.
Stunned and defeated. Oklahoma fades to a 24 to 14 loss at the hands of the soon to be #5 BOISE STATE BRONCOS.
That’s the story!-No need to play the game!

It was one of those near perfect days.
Sunshine, fresh fluffy snow and my daughter to ski with. The trees were draped in a dramatic crust of Hoarfrost. Some trees even had movie set perfect ice sickles glistening in the afternoon sunshine. The wide vistas of back country Idaho amaze if you looked north. Look south and see the stark contrast of the chaos of the Treasure Valley.

Bogus Basin has grown into a fantastic resort. With 7 lifts, two lodges. (Why does JR need another thing named after him?) Yurts, halfpipes, tube hills, and a nordic center. Bogus is no Sun Valley, but bottom line, there are few cities as grand as ours that can boost such a wonderful recreational facility so close.

Take a look at this Music Video from KTVB.com. The audio comes from KIZN, I think the video was done by the “smart son” Don Day.
BSU gon b BUCKIN’
What is that feeling? It is the ever growing, quiet, subtle belief that BSU can win, yes win the Fiesta Bowl>> Go Blue

Pete’s is definitely in play. Several offers are being entertained by the 82 year old Faye Pengilly and her family. After a mere 30 years the clan is apparently ready to sell. Faye has kept daily tabs on the tabs since at least when Pete passed and her kids are ready for her to enjoy life without a bar.
As I said in an earlier story, Nueroloxian, Alan Ireland and Jazz star Curtis Stigers
are in the mix. However, don’t count out the staff and/or customers. A little inside knowledge leads Boisee to bet on a staff member!

Bob Stoops, the Oklahoma Sooners football coach, after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven, God was showing him around. They came to a modest little house with a faded Oklahoma Sooner flag in the window. “This house is yours for eternity, Bob,” said God. “This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here.”
Bob felt special, indeed, and walked up to his house.
On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner. It was a three-story mansion with, a bright blue turfed yard, blue and orange picket fence, a 50-foot tall flagpole with an enormous BSU Bronco flag, and in every window, he could see Bronco fans. Bob looked at God and said, “God, I’m not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question.
I was a good coach, I won a national championship in 2000,
4 Big 12 Championships, 8 bowl game appearances including 5 BCS Bowls.”
God said, “So what do you want to know, Bob?” “Well, why does Chris Petersen, The BSU coach, get a better house than me?” God chuckled and said, “Bob, that’s not Coach Petersen’s house; that’s mine.”
Thanks Lissa!

Peace to all!

Heard the former manager of Shakers will be the manager of the new Lush martini bar on Main. Wonder if his new staff will dance on the bar? Heck, Boisee wonders if they will be better at getting you a drink. Man, we hope so!
December 21st, 2006
Please don’t drink and drive this weekend. If you do-don’t say this. . .
Strakle starkle little twink, I’m not under the alcafluence of incahol like some thinkal peep I am. It’s just the drunker i sit here, the longer I get!

Was going to wait for Monday for this one, but nothin’ else is going on. . . so-
With a couple of twists of a bar towel you can create a fairly accurate looking fowl.
One of the most fun “bar tricks” ever. This time of year you can call it a turkey instead of a chicken.
Great for Christmas dinner at the bar.
Complete instrutions HERE!

Bar watch
The Torch 2 on Vista is trying for a new building. Apparently the former Q’s Trophy Cabin’s log look doesn’t match the whole Stripper image.
Wonder if the neighbors want a newer better Bikini bar, or a run down cabin.
BTW it has been rumored that the building was a whore house run by Diamond Lil in the 30’s.

The Survival Guide for Horror Movie Characters
Why is it that in every horror movie the characters act so stupid. . .
• Don’t go into the basement, period!
• When it appears that you have killed the monster, *never* check to see if it’s really dead.
• If you find that your house is built upon or near a cemetery, was once a church that was used for black masses, had previous inhabitants who went mad or committed suicide or died in some horrible fashion, or had inhabitants who performed necrophilia or satanic practices in your house move away immediately.
• Never read a book of demon summoning aloud, even as a joke.
• If your children speak to you in Latin or any other language which they do not know, or if they speak to you using a voice which is other than their own, shoot them immediately. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run. NOTE: It will probably take several rounds to kill them, so be prepared.
• When you have the benefit of numbers, *never* pair off or go it alone.
• As a general rule, don’t solve puzzles that open portals to Hell.
• Never stand in, on, above, below, beside,or anywhere near a grave, tomb, crypt, mausoleum, or other house of the dead.
• If you’re searching for something which caused a noise and find out that it’s just the cat, *leave the room immediately if you value your life.*
• If appliances start operating by themselves, move out.
• Do not take *anything* from the dead.
• If you find a town which looks deserted, it’s probably for a reason. Take the hint and stay away.
• Don’t fool with recombinant DNA technology unless you’re sure you know what you are doing.
• If you’re running from the monster, expect to trip or fall down at least twice, more if you are of the female persuasion. Also note that, despite the fact that you are running and the monster is merely shambling along, it’s still moving fast enough to catch up with you.
• If your companions suddenly begin to exhibit uncharacteristic behavior such as hissing, fascination for blood, glowing eyes, increasing hairiness, and so on, get away from them as fast as possible.
• Stay away from certain geographical locations, some of which are listed here: Amityville, Elm Street, Transylvania, Nilbog (God help you if you recognize this one), the Bermuda Triangle, or any small town in Maine.
• If your car runs out of gas at night, do not go to the nearby deserted- looking house to phone for help.
• Beware of strangers bearing tools such as chainsaws, staple guns, hedge trimmers, electric carving knives, combines, lawnmowers, butane torches, soldering irons, band saws, or any device made from deceased companions.
• Listen closely to the soundtrack; and pay attention to the audience, since they are usually far more intelligent than you could ever hope to be.

It is the last week for me at the Boise City Holiday Market. I’ll be at my normal spot across from the Brick Oven. The market is open Saturday from 11 to 3. Rain or Shine.
Come down and see the merchants. They work hard at presenting quality hand made or hand grown gifts and food.

Sign painter and one time Boisee commentator called today asking about Christmas Blues songs.
Could only come up with a few that are not just funked up versions on standards.
Merry Christmas Baby-Charles Brown
5 pound box of Money-Michelle(evil gal) Wilson
Stay a Little Longer, Santa-Shemekia Copeland
And my all time favorite Blues Christmas song. . .
Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt.
What did I miss?
December 12th, 2006
It started out as a Micky D’s. Then it became Crepe restaurant Square. Soon the Main street location next to the Egyptian Theater will be Lush.
Lush will be martini bar and this could work. Right in the heart of downtown this spot may be hot.
Maybe the they can hire some of Dave Krick’s old help! (sorry Dave it was just too easy!)
More soon!

Hard to belive that the mighty Boise State was a small community junior college not so long ago. As a kid, my mom and dad would take me to the BJC games. The football games were fun, but I remember running up and down the wooden bleachers making a huge racket. Wood bleachers?
Imagine that in this age of BCS and All American running backs began just a few decades ago with a rickety wood stand. It sat in about the same place and could pack in 5000 or so(with bleachers borrowed from Boise High). The current Bronco stadium built in 1970, originally it had just a single lower bleacher on the west(student) side and a doubled tiered east side. Soon both sides doubled and later the north end zone was closed.
Small or not Boise has always been a football jugernaut. Over the years the school has won everthing from the Spud Bowl and Camellia Bowl’s in Califronia to NCAA and now several WAC championships.
Interestingly the field was not originally blue. It has only been “smurf turf†since i think 1986. “The Blue†is now seats 30,000 and has become one of the hardest fields in america to beat the home team on. The “Boise—State†cheer can be very disruptive to the opposition.
So as we watch the once mighty Miami get beat by Nevada in the MPC bowl at the stadium and see the Broncos smack some orange and blue on Oklahoma we should remember our not so distant past.

The ever-growing Krick empire now goes all the way to the top of the food chain. Boisee wonders if even Bittercreek master Dave Krick can finally make high-end cuisine work in Boise? With the possible exception of John Mortimer, no restauranteur has moved us spuds to step the culinary ladder to fine dinning, European or other. Or, maybe it’s just the whole “jacket preferred†thing at Andrae’s!
On a more disturbing note. Several of the longtime management staff of Kricks’ other restaurants have been let go. Maybe Mr. Bopp’s salary put the group over the Krick Inc. salary cap!
The good news? At least one of the old group has landed on his feet. Former Bittercreek bar manager Michael can be found at Pair.
___________________________________________________________________________________
I guess I’m a bit confused here. Are you saying Andrae’s is gone or that it has been bought by Dave Krick?
Comment by Jon — December 7, 2006 @ 8:55 pm
Andrae’s has been bought by Dave Krick and will continue to serve the best high-end food in Boise under the direction of head chef Andrae. . . who will also oversee all the other restaurants in the Krick family portfolio. Sounds like an upgrade all around to me. Look for more local food in all of these restaurants come spring. Dave is a huge local food supporter and so is Andrae.

Too bad about the management losing their jobs but this is what Mr. Krick is known to do. I’m sure they will land back on their feet!

It’s a drag to fire people (or get fired, I’m sure). Part of being a small business owner. . . trying to get the right team together isn’t always the easiest thing. I used to own a business and have done my fair share of letting people go - mostly long after I should have - and felt horrible every time. Kudos to Dave for his contribution to the vitality of our downtown and his ongoing commitment to making Boise a great place to live, work and play.

Tamara wrote. . . “Kudos to Dave for his contribution to the vitality of our downtown and his ongoing commitment to making Boise a great place to live, work and play.â€
Yes, Dave Krick is a good for downtown. However Boise is not a good place to work or play if you work for Dave Krick!!!!!
He fires his staff whilly nilly and for little or no cause. Their is hardly a restaurant or bar around that doesn’t have a Krick ex, and all seem to be performing or exceeding those small business owners expectations. Are all the other owners stupid to hire these employees? No, Krick has let go some great workers. This time a manager got back from vacation and was told “we don’t have room for you.†WTF?
Come on, Tamara , even the great Dave Krick may be an ass to his employees and management.
Comment by night-lifer — December 10, 2006 @ 8:04 p
Hey tamara,
You may want to disclose that you are a personal friend of Dave’s.
Comment by Jason — December 10, 2006 @ 10:14 pm
One other note. I know Dave has had his share of losers that he has had to get rid of in the past. I think his biggest fault is his passive aggressiveness with regards to his management. He has a habit of not expressing his opinions until it gets to the point where he is forced to get rid of certain management.
