Milky Way to close.
April 16th, 2008
Gotta admit this one surprises Boisee. Frankly we have heard the hints and rumors and could not belieive them!
The Milky Way is closing as of this Saturday. Bummer!
From their start in the basement of the Carrols building, Milky Way has always been one of our favorites.
Expect to see some of the staff at the Bonefish.
That means powerhouse bartendter Kevin Farney is “on the beach†so the Martini Mix-Off is wide open.

Milky Way is closing and the Pope is at the White House with Shrub? Is the Pocky Lips far behind?

We should all eat at Milky Way this week. This is so sad.

I’m starting to think that any place that gets the Boisee.com seal of approval is destined for failure. The cynical pricks that frequent this site seem to poo poo any establishment that doesn’t meet their standard of elitist aire. Meanwhile the places that the masses seem to enjoy get snarky pop shots. I guess I will read between the lines.

We were always well met at Milky Way. The hellos and how do you do’s had smiles before them and swell food following. It was friendly and delicious. I used to sit at the Kitchen Counter and ask the cooks what was their choice, what would they like to recommend. “This is fresh, we just got these in, take a look at those…” Have you ever talked about beets? You should. You should dig inside yourself and remember meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. What is there to be said for food that speaks to us too? Hi, how ya doing, you made me think of my Grandmother’s for a minute. Been a while. And let us not forget the Milky Burger, oh no…that is a burger. Ok then. Business is business. I say Milky Way is deserving of an accolade; for the Beef Cheeks and the Calamari and the professional people who did this magic show day after day. Omnia Mutantur, Nihil Interit, everything changes but nothing is lost (forgotten). We may dispute the latin but not the sentiment, and if food ain’t the music of love…quit eating altogether baby. Breaking bread is the thing, and Milky Way was a beautiful thing. Thank you thank you thank you.

So sad that this wonderful place is closing - delicious, relaxing and welcoming - it will be sorely missed.

A Classy Coda.
It was Thursday the 18 when we heard of Milky Way’s closing. We quickly went to dine there and pay our respects. Moments before we’d gotten to the bar, a factotum of some designation had removed the Liquor License from the very wall we were facing. A birthday party celebrated upstairs, patrons were in limbo seeking libations, and arriving quests were being given the sad news along with the evenings bad news.”Ice water with that madame?” We dined and opined, musing with forks and knives. Stories went about, tales were told, and the absent bands played on in our memories. Home the hunters, home from the hill, sadder still.
But…as surely as a change of thought…on Friday we were told of a courtesy, a graciousness, a real stand up do the right thing had been done for Milky Way’s last day’s through Saturday. A license was made available, a permission for them to sell fine fluids to accompany the foods. Job well done. Good on ya. Nice work. You done good. Class act, yes, a class act.You have done a good deed for good people, you helped them when they needed just such care. Every Reason Is Considerable. You don’t have to remember Tobor the 8th man or be of that specific generation. The very idea of local Street Markets, be they sellers of Wine or fruit of some other vine, we are intertwined in more than ways than readily apparent. The economy now shows us wounds that have become fissures. So to hear of so thoughtful an act gives me a smile. My appreciation to those who made their kindness manifest with deeds. Mirabile Visu.Mirabile Dictu.
