With respect, my evaluation of AAF is the opposite of the tone being struck here. To my ears, and among my peer group, Alive After Five has finally become a relevant music venue that actually surprises us from week to week with the quality and diversity of the performances. I'm a huge supporter of local musicians -- whose ranks include many of my closest friends as well as my roommate -- but in our opinion Mike Bunnell's booking guidance (and an increase in his budget) has put the alive back into AAF, exposing locals to musicians they otherwise would never have heard. In my mind this is actually better for the local scene in the long run than booking Ada performers out of some sense of obligation. The word for that is tokenism. That said, I look forward to supporting Lori B's band and Nathan Moody and many others as they play the many other venues available to them in Boise and surrounding communities.

Well said - and I am in total agreement. I never go to AAF - why go downtown to hear a band that I know nothing about? And then you get there and the music is either no good or not what you expected - bring back our local talent - our favorites!

One of things I love to brag about here in San Francisco is just how amazing the musical talent back home in Boise, Idaho is. The local music scene is simply outstanding. San Francisco used to have a thriving local music scene and that has simply gone away for the most part, now we only have 'talent on tour' here. I'd hate to see that happen in Boise

It is absurd that there will be no local bands performing. I don't think the people in charge have ever been outside of their offices.
