Three brave young men took the stage by storm this Sunday at the Blues Society Jam. Drummer Max Ball, guitarist Brock Bartel, joined Tyler Aguiar on bass to play some, rock old and new. These 7th graders were well rehearsed and solid.
What were you doing on a sunny Sunday afternoon when you were 12? If you think of it like that it is all the more wonderful. Their performance highlighted that these young men have spent some time working on the music and with each other as a band. Each had interesting solos and backed each other up well. Many youthful memories were stirred and even the most jaded of the old timers were smiling.
Judging from the shy smiles on Max, Brock and Tyler’s faces plus the reaction of friends, family and the crowd we will see more success from Underscore.
Don’t tell us we don’t need music in the schools.

Its Monday, here were my fun was! The Reef on Friday was a regular hoot. Next Exit proved the Blues work in Boise. Like the Hoochies last month, the place was a jumpin’. Nancy voice soared over the dancers and the band really jelled with the addition of John “the Baseman” Biseline. Add “in the pocket” drumming, Bruces power harp and tasty guitar and you got The BLUES baby.
If you missed Next Exit, don’t fret, they will be part of the BBS Fat Tuesday Celebration for Benefit of “Blues in the Schools.” Tuesday Night February 28th.
Want a pair of tickets to Fat Tuesday? Be the 2nd e-mailer. Enjoy!

From Hawaii, Don Outram sent the picture of his fathers 88th Birthday. Bet he didn’t try the wings either!
Great week of music. Nancy and Next Exit at the Reef tonight. BBS Jam also at the Reef Sunday afternoon and Fat Tuesday Tuesday night.
The jam will feature a brand new band of youngsters. One on them was in a Blues in the Schools program. This may be the start of a young blues all-stars band. By the way Tuesday Nights is a benefit for the afore mentioned Blues in the Schools.

If the staff is beautiful, the wings will be terrible. This is the basic belief of Big Mike. So, Don’t risk the wings at the Boise Hooters. The services was quick, friendly, and well yes beautiful. The food was good. Stop by the Boise Hooters’ Why? Cause nothin’ sez class like Hooters.
Did I mention the hula hooping YMCA singing waitstaff? Good!
Thanks to Julia for letting me take a pic.
Denny Erickson-the Big Easy.
Perfect match.
After a couple of months the Ranch Club has reopened with new management and nothing like the radical changes rumored. (earlier story) Haven’t been by yet, but we hear the kitchen and dining have been downsized and pool tables added. We are also hearing they are going to have real LIVE bands again.
Does this mean the “Bar Death Watch” trend is over and we can all start having some Live Music fun again. WOO HOO!.
The Ranch club story reminded me that Richard Soliz & Brother/BBQ Bob have a new drummer and a fiery new woman singer. Look for the New Blue Rayz at Burger & Brew this weekend. Should be fun to watch.
Who knows? Maybe they will play the new Ranch.
Forgot to tell you! The Bada Boom Room closed as of Thursday Night.
The Mosaic is also gone!
Bingo!
May be the best ever comment/answer to a question from a story.(Boise Weekly-weakly)
To bad it is ‘anonymous”- anyone that clever should take the credit.

Some days are as “pretty as a postcard.”
Any one else hearing rumors of turmoil at the Weekly? Sales people quit all the time, but things seem a bit more up in the air now.
As long as it doesn’t effect the “Martini Mix-Off” everything will be alright, right!

Built in 1895 the King stills sit on the corner of 17th and Main. You can see it at the North East the corner of the Downtowner parking lot. The building has a number of historical hand painted signs that have facinated me for years.
Do any of you have old pictures or information? Please let me know, I am working on an article and am having trouble locating much info. I’m up to 1915 in the city directory and it still isn’t mentioned. Thanks
Don’t forget Fat Tuesday! Join the Boise Blues Society at The Bouquet and Terrapin Station for a Fat Tuesday blast. $5.00 for both clubs. One picture says it all. . .
The former J105 Van is for sale on a lot in-Yep, Garden City. Once the KGEM van, then converted to the power colored red and black J Van. It was”designed” by frequent commenter Paul Peterson to silver and pink. J105 never really did recover.
A recent Pew trust poll found that 30% of americans use the internet for “just fun.”
I’m thinkin’-The other 70%?. . . porn!

One of the tables at the new Moxie Java in Vista Village(Ok I know the landlord!) is bigger than the entire inside of the old building. This maxie Moxie is a shrine to the coffee gods-Comfortable seats abound, fast internet, and coffee. Plus, the same smiling faces behind the counter and EASY, Easy easy access to the drive thru. Gotta love progress.
The starkly muted colors of Barber Park are powerful reminder of winters success. Yet a spiders’ web on a lone berry tell of springs past and future.
A skeptical John Hecht tells of rumors that the Bada Boomers are moving to the Old Boogie Woogie space.
This time check ID’s of the customers, and IQ’s of the staff!
This a story that has nothing to do with anything except for the fact that I can’t seem to sleep anymore.
Clocky is, quite simply, for people who have trouble waking up.
When the alarm clock goes off and the snooze button is pressed, Clocky will fall off of the bedside table and wheel away, bumping mindlessly into objects on the floor until he eventually finds a spot to rest. Minutes later, when the alarm sounds again, the over-sleeper must get up out of bed and search for Clocky. Because you employ multiple senses to find the clock, you are sure to awake before disabling the alarm. Small wheels enable Clocky to move and reposition himself, and an internal computer helps him find a new hiding spot every day.

So I may need one soon!

As a very frequent user of the internet you would think that I would be hard to fool. OK! Not that hard, but still I have spent years blogging, buying, selling and generally driving this ol’ info highway. So what? Well a very clever e-mail almost snagged me yesterday. In one of my e-mail accounts I received an e-mail apparently from Pay Pal, stating that an address in California was added to my account. Since I had just updated my addresses, I FREAKED. Figuring someone was using my account and shipping to their house. I almost clicked the link to “Update” my account but got sidetracked. After a moment it occurred to me to look at my Pay Pal account directly. Yep, you guess it. No new address. The e-mail was an attempt to get me to enter all of my personal information. This trick Darn near worked. So my friends, be careful. The crooks are pretty smart.
P>S> I sent the offending e-mail to Pay Pal for their investigation!

Friend Donald Outram sent this dispatch from Hawaii:…
Seems like everyplace has one but you might mention to the folks at the Cactus on Main (when they emerge from their 30 day “remodel”) that there’s a Cactus West in Kona on the Big Island and it’s for sale!
Aloha mon ami
Guess the bar biz is hard even in paradise!
If you know much about this blog, you know it stings to talk about the “old” times at the Blues Bouquet. When the ‘Easy boys” forced the Clumsy Lovers to switch to their club so the CL’s could play at the river fest. It was a sad day at 1010 Main.
That said, I have seldom seen a group of musicians that work as hard as Trevor and his merry band of Lovers. They are amazing on stage and use to light up the Bouquet in a way not accomplished by many. Also it is great that they have broken the Bravo spell . . . So! The Clumsy Lovers will be at the (b)ouquet February 17th and 18th. Not sure if I can bring myself to go, but you all should. Tell them “Old” Blues staff misses ‘em, will you.
Just a short reminder from the Bitterbrush Blues Band…
We’re playing again at Harry’s of Hyde Park this Saturday evening starting at 9:00 pm
Have it from very reliable sources. The Bada Boom will close soon and not reopen. Guess they should have checked IQ’s and ID’s
